BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- Juniors Anthony dos Santos (New Bedford, Mass.) and Victor Ferreira (St. Michael, Portugal) each netted a goal and an assist to lead UMass Dartmouth to a 3-0 non-league college men’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Thursday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.
Sophomore John Macaroco (New Bedford, Mass.) gave the visiting Corsairs (9-3) the only tally they would need in the 25th minute of action on a Ferreira feed, and dos Santos extended UMass Dartmouth’s advantage to 2-0 in the 60th minute on an assist from sophomore Jordan Sindo (New Bedford, Mass.). Ferreira collected the final marker of the match less than 10 minutes later on a dos Santos feed to account for the final score.
Senior Mike Phelan (Carver, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for the Corsairs with one save over 76-plus minutes of action in net, while senior Brett Young (Falmouth, Mass.) made three stops in the setback for the host Buccaneers (6-4-2), who saw their three-match unbeaten string come to an end. UMass Dartmouth outshot Massachusetts Maritime by a 15-7 margin in a contest that saw each team take five corner kicks on the evening.
Massachusetts Maritime heads to Bridgewater, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on Bridgewater State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match that begins at 5:00 p.m., while UMass Dartmouth travels to Gorham, Maine on Saturday afternoon to take on Southern Maine in a Little East Conference match that begins at 1:00 p.m.
