WORCESTER, Mass. --  Freshman Asa Mills (Westport, Mass.) netted his first collegiate goal in the 53rd minute of play to lift Massachusetts Maritime to a 2-1 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer victory over Worcester State Saturday afternoon at Coughlin Field.

The visiting Buccaneers (5-9, 1-4 MASCAC) grabbed an early 1-0 advantage when senior Kevin McCord (Norwell, Mass.) converted a feed from sophomore Tim McDonough (Framingham, Mass.) just 11:31 into the match for his four goal of the season, but the host Lancers (3-11, 0-5 MASCAC) evened matters in the 34th minute when junior Christopher Hinds (Westboro, Mass.) converted fellow junior Julian Morales’ (Brighton, Mass.) corner kick for his first marker of the year and a 1-1 draw at the break.  Mills’ unassisted tally seven-plus minutes after intermission proved to be the game-winner for Massachusetts Maritime, as Worcester State had three shots in the final 10 minutes but couldn’t net the equalizer.

Sophomore Patrick Slaney (Northbridge, Mass.) picked up his third win of the season in goal for Massachusetts Maritime with a pair of saves, while junior Evan Wilga (Dudley, Mass.) made three stops in net for Worcester State as the Lancers outshot the Buccaneers by a 16-12 margin for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts WPI in a non-league outing on Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Worcester State heads to North Dartmouth, Mass. on Wednesday afternoon to take on UMass Dartmouth in a non-league match that begins at 3:30 p.m.
