Avakian Records 100th Career Point as Buccaneers Ground the Falcons

NEW HAVEN, Conn – The Buccaneers travelled to Connecticut Wednesday evening to take on Albertus Magnus College in their final non-conference game of the season. The 2-8 Falcons were no match for the Bucs as they improved back to .500 on the season with a 17-2 victory.

Buccaneer junior attacker Benjamin Avakian (Bourne, Mass) scored four goals in the game and had two assists. The first goal he scored with six minutes to play in the first quarter marked the Cape Cod native's 100^th career point, joining Td Powers (Marshfield, Mass) who reached 100 career points earlier this season. Powers also scored four goals and tallied two assists in the win over Albertus Magnus. Junior Franklin Ragge (Scituate, Mass) scored three times for the visitors while freshman Sager Florio (Andover, Mass) and Peter Raei (Boston, Mass) each scored two goals. Florio also had an assist for the Bucs. Alexandre Lucas (Walpole, Mass) and Spencer Jones (Hyannis, Mass) each scored once in the victory. Lucas added two assists to his score line. The Buccaneers played four goalies in net, senior Michael Dolan (McLean, Va) started and picked up the win. He allowed just one goal and made six saves on seven shots.

Albertus' two goals were scored by Mykel Stinson and Christopher Magnifico. John Brunetti caused a game-high three turnovers in the loss. Brunetti was also the Falcons starting goalie. He faced an outstanding 48 shots by Maritime, making 31 saves and allowing the 17 goals.

Powers opened the scoring for Maritime, scoring the team's first two goals of the game. Albertus threatened by cutting the score in half at the halfway point of the first quarter on Magnifico's score. Avakian scored next for the Bucs, recording his 100^th career point and Lucas followed four minutes late. The Bucs led 4-1 after one.

In the second quarter, the Bucs extended their 2-0 run to 8-0, scoring six goals unanswered in the second quarter. Of which Avakian scored three. The teams went to the break with the score 10-1 in favor of the Buccaneers.

The second half began with a Powers man-up goal less than two minutes in. The Bucs would again go a whole quarter unanswered by the Falcons, scoring four times, running the streak to 12-0. They led 14-1 at the end of three with a little help from Ragge who scored two goals in the last six minutes of the third quarter.

In the fourth, the Bucs scored two quick goals in the first two minutes to take a 16-1 lead. The scored again with 4:21 left on the clock when Jones found the back of the net and made the unanswered run 15-0. The Falcons scored their second goal with just seconds left on the clock as Stinson made it a 15-goal, 17-2 game.

With the 17-2 win, the Buccaneers improve to 6-6 on the season. Up next for Maritime is a NEWMAC showdown with Coast Guard on Saturday, April 20^th at 3pm.
