BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Michael Hanratty (Floral Park, N.Y.) scored four goals and added an assists for five points to lead New York Maritime to a 12-6 non-league college men’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime in the Second Annual Maritime Cup contest played Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The visiting Privateers (2-4) jumped out to a 5-2 advantage at the break and took control of the match by netting six of the seven markers scored in the third quarter, including two tallies off the stick of junior Alexander Korb (Islip, N.Y.), to take an 11-3 edge into the final 15 minutes of play, as the host Buccaneers (0-2) were able to get no closer than the final score.

Senior Stephen Doherty (Yorktown, N.Y.) added a pair of goals and three assists for five points in the triumph for New York Maritime, which also received a pair of markers off the stick of sophomore John Driscoll (Seaford, N.Y.).  Korb added an assist to finish with three points for the Privateers, who received single goals from freshmen Anthony Mendez (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Matthew Messina (West Sayville, N.Y.).

The senior twin brother tandem of Connor and Brian Burke (Del Mar, Calif.) accounted for all of the scoring in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, as each notched a hat trick with Connor Burke adding an assist to finish with four points.

Junior Keith Messina (West Sayville, N.Y.) picked up the win in goal for New York Maritime with a nine-save effort, while senior James Hitchings (Dover, Mass.) made seven stops in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime as the Privateers outshot the Buccaneers by a 23-22 margin for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Plymouth State in a non-league outing on Tuesday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium that begins at 4:00 p.m., while New York Maritime hosts Ithaca in a non-league match next Saturday afternoon in Throggs Neck, N.Y. that begins at 2:00 p.m.
