Five Buccaneers Named to MASCAC All-Conference Teams

WESTFIELD, Mass – Thursday afternoon, the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference released their Al—Conference teams and season awards. Five Buccaneers were named to the All-Conference squads, three received first team honors and two were named to the second team.

Named to the MASCAC All-Conference Defensive First Team are junior defensive lineman Kyle Johnston (Raynham, Mass) and sophomore defensive lineman Colin McCabe (Dartmouth, Mass).

Johnston, named on an All-Conference team for the first time in his Maritime career, finished the season third on the team with 47 tackles. He totaled 4.5 sacks on the season, tied for seventh in the MASCAC, also third on the team, and led the team and the conference in tackles for loss with 12.5. He also forced two fumbles and recovering one of them.

McCabe is no stranger to All-Conference selections as he was named to the second team in 2017 and now the first team in 2018. Colin led the Bucs with six sacks in his sophomore campaign, tied for second in the MASCAC. The Dartmouth native totaled 33 tackles and 11.5 tackles for loss, second in conference, on the season.

This is the second year in a row that two Buccaneer defensive lineman are represented on the same All-conference team.

Senior offensive lineman Chris Winbourne (Wrentham, Mass) was named to All-Conference offensive first team. Winbourne has been an iron man on the Maritime offensive line playing in 37 of a possible 40 games in his career. He played in all 20 possible games in his junior and senior seasons. Chris spent time on special teams for the Bucs recording eight tackles on the punt and kick teams.

Representing the Academy on the second team is sophomore punter George Lampros (Bridgewater, Mass) and offensively, senior full back Andrew Decarteret (Nashua, N.H.).

Lampros kicked and punted for the Buccaneers in his sophomore season. George led the conference in total punt yardage with 1,869 yards for an average of 37.4 yards per punt in 50 attempts. He had the fourth longest punt, 62 yards, in the conference with the leader in that category being Buccaneers teammate Matt Long (Weymouth, Mass) who booted a 73 yard pooch punt. Lampros pinned the opponent inside their own 20 yard line 11 times in 2018, third most in the MASCAC.

Decarteret, who was voted on to the second team as a full back, played in all 10 games in 2018 for the Bucs, running the ball 42 times for 211 yards. He also caught 4 passes for 24 yards out of the backfield. Andrew was often the lead blocker for running backs Benjamin Sheehan (Wilbraham, Mass) and the aforementioned Long who gained 899 yards from scrimmage with the help of Decarteret, Winbourne and the rest of the Buccaneer offensive line.

Congratulations to all five of the Buccaneers named to the 2018 MASCAC All-Conference Teams. Three of the five honorees will be back with the Buccaneers for the 2019 season.
