Crew Squads Close Out Spring Seasons With Competition At 2017 New England Rowing Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime crew squads closed out their respective spring campaigns by competing at the 2017 New England Rowing Championships that took place Saturday afternoon on Lake Quinsigamond.

 

The Buccaneer women’s varsity four consisting of senior coxswain James Lucenta (Yorktown, Va.), senior Rochelle Gaudette (Fall River, Mass.), junior Brianna Caissie (Webster, Mass.) and freshmen Cat Swan (Ashland, Ohio) and McKenzie Hartman (Sudbury, Mass.) finished 11th overall with a time of 7:30, as UMass Lowell and Connecticut College claimed the top two spots.

 

The Massachusetts Maritime men’s varsity four comprised of sophomore coxswain Patrick Wall (West Roxbury, Mass.), seniors Liam Barry (Wellesley, Mass.) and Michael Pieroni (Arlington, Mass.), sophomore Timothy O’Neill (Block Island, R.I.) and freshman Scott Jones (Lebanon, N.H.) placed ninth with a time of 8:23.4, as Boston College and Bowdoin took the first place and runner-up positions in the race.

 

The Buccaneer men’s novice four consisting of sophomore coxswain Ethan Logan (Vernon, Conn), sophomores Tyler Vito (Foxboro, Mass.) and Beau Palanza (Mansfield, Mass.) along with freshmen Gregory Couse (Sewell, N.J.) and Shengyi Wang (Shanghai, China) recorded a sixth place time of 10:45.1, as WPI and Bowdoin posted the top two performances.
