Crew Squads Open Fall Campaigns With Pair Of Top Three Finishes At Head Of The Seekonk Regatta

PROVIDENCE, R.I. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime crew squads opened their respective fall campaigns with impressive performances at the Head of the Seekonk Regatta hosted by the Narragansett Boat Club on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Buccaneer women’s varsity four posted a solid third place finish in their inaugural race of the season, as the tandem of senior coxswain James Lucenta (Yorktown, Va.), seniors Rochelle Gaudette (Fall River, Mass.) and Colleen LeFavor (Mashpee, Mass.), sophomore Olivia Swenson (Centerville, Mass.) and freshman Paige Decker (Nantucket, Mass.) posted a time of 30:16.9.  Johnson & Wales took top honors in the competition, with Bryant following in the runner-up spot.

 

Massachusetts Maritime’s men’s varsity four consisting of coxswain Lucenta, senior Anthony Bratica (Milford, Mass.), sophomores Nathanael Costa (Forestdale, Mass.) and Timothy O’Neill (Block Island, R.I.) and freshman Edward Dunn (Acton, Mass.) took top honors in the event with a time of 21:43.1.

 

Both Buccaneer squads return to action on Sunday, October 2nd at the Textile River Regatta on the Merrimack River in Lowell, Mass. beginning at 9:00 a.m.
