Men's & Women's Crew Squads Record Five Top Four Finishes In Seven Team Competition At UMass Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime crew squads posted solid performances in damp and shifting conditions in a seven-team regatta that included Brandeis, Bryant, Endicott, Roger Williams, Wentworth and host UMass Lowell Saturday afternoon on the Merrimack River.

 

The Buccaneer women’s varsity eight consisting of junior coxswain James Lucenta (Yorktown, Va.), juniors Rochelle Gaudette (Fall River, Mass.) and Laura Hahn (Colchester, Conn.), sophomores Christina Brennan (Halifax, Mass.), Summer Cawley (Riverview, Fla.) and Brianna Caissie (Webster, Mass.) as well as freshmen Olivia Swenson (Centerville, Mass.), Andie Painten (Walpole, Mass.) and Kaleigh Hoffman (Noblesville, Ind.), placed fourth with an overall time of 8:40.49.  Massachusetts Maritime’s women’s varsity four consisting of coxswain Lucenta, Brennan, Hahn, Hoffman and Caissie was fifth in a time of 9:16.50, while the women’s second varsity four comprised of coxswain Cawley, Gaudette, Painten, Swenson and freshman Cameron Harris-Browne (Lebanon, N.J.) finished fourth with a time of 9:05.

 

The Buccaneer men’s varsity eight comprised of senior coxswain James Belbin (Carver, Mass.), seniors Liam Barry (Wellesley, Mass.), Andrew Murphy (Randolph, Mass.) and Ryan Skavis (Shrewsbury, Mass.), juniors Matthew Peluso (Ledyard, Conn.), Michael Pieroni (Arlington, Mass.) and Jeffrey Kahler (Brattleboro, Vt.), as well as freshmen Nathanael Costa (Forestdale, Mass.), Patrick Wall (West Roxbury, Mass.) and Jacob Bernard (Kensington, Conn.), finished fourth with a time of 7:10.01.  Massachusetts Maritime’s men’s varsity four consisting of coxswain Pieroni, Belbin, Murphy, Barry and Skavis finished second to Wentworth with a time of 7:19.13, while the men’s novice four of freshman coxswain Austin Wolfe (Wakefield, Mass.), Wall, Bernard as well as freshmen Cameron MacLean (Townsend, Mass.) and J. Nicholas August (Bristol, R.I.) also finished as the runner-up to Wentworth in a time of 7:15.31.

 

Both Buccaneer teams return to action next Saturday morning by heading to Worcester, Mass. to compete against Brandeis, Bryant, Roger Williams and host Assumption on Lake Quinsigamond beginning at 9:00 a.m.
