SMITHFIELD, R.I. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime crew squads closed out their respective fall schedules Saturday afternoon with top four performances at the inaugural Bryant Haunted Bulldog Regatta that took place on the Stillwater Reservoir, as the Buccaneers competed against Roger Williams, Johnson & Wales and host Bryant.

 

The Buccaneer men’s varsity four “A” entry comprised of senior coxswain James Belbin (Carver, Mass.) along seniors Ryan Skavis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Andrew Murphy (Randolph, Mass.) and juniors Anthony Bratica (Milford, Mass.) and James Coburn (Higganum, Conn.) took top honors in the race with a time of 18:01, besting Roger Williams by 1:20 in the competition.  Massachusetts Maritime’s “B” varsity four shell comprised of freshman coxswain Olivia Swenson (Centerville, Mass.), juniors Thomas Miceli (Unionville, Conn.), Jeffrey Kahler (Brattleboro, Vt.) and Matthew Peluso (Ledyard, Conn.), as well as freshmen Joseph Naron (Montclair, Va.), placed third in the event with a time of 21:08.

 

The Buccaneer women’s varsity four consisting of junior coxswain James Lucenta (Yorktown, Va.), juniors Laura Hahn (Colchester, Conn.), Cassandra Charpentier (New Bedford, Mass.) and Rochelle Gaudette (Fall River, Mass.), as well as freshmen Andie Painten (Walpole, Mass.), recorded a fourth place time of 23:02 in the race, which was won by the host Bulldogs.

 

Massachusetts Maritime also fielded a men’s novice four in competition, which was comprised of freshman coxswain Austin Wolfe (Wakefield, Mass.) along with fellow freshmen John Taglieri (Duxbury, Mass.), Donny Lofe (Danville, Calif.), Darwin Ayala (New Bedford, Mass.) and Timothy O’Neill (Block Island, R.I.).  The Buccaneers posted a fourth place performance in the race with a time of 22:30.

 

Both Massachusetts Maritime squads will resume action on March 26, 2016 with their spring season opener at Amherst.
