Crew Squads Open Fall Seasons With Solid Performances At Textile River Regatta

LOWELL, Mass.--  Both Massachusetts Maritime crew squads opened their respective fall seasons with solid performances at the Textile River Regatta on Sunday afternoon, as the event featured one of the longest courses in the country (3.6 miles) on the Merrimack River.

 

Sophomores Laura Hahn (Colchester, Conn.) and Madisen Buttner (Lakeville, Mass.) finished third in the women’s double with a time of 31:11.9, as Holy Cross and Simmons captured the respective top and runner-up spots in the event.  In the men’s open four, the Buccaneer “A” entry consisting of junior coxswain James Belbin (Carver, Mass.), juniors Ryan Skavis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Andrew Murphy (Randolph, Mass.) as well as sophomores Anthony Bratica (Milford, Mass.) and James Coburn (Higganum, Conn.) finished 16th with a time of 23:39.9, while Massachusetts Maritime’s “B” entry consisting of sophomore coxswain James Lucenta (Yorktown, Va.) and fellow sophomores Timothy Birch (Hollis, N.H.), Jeffrey Kahler (Brattleboro, Vt.), Charles Mojcik (Shelton, Conn.) and Matthew Peluso (Ledyard, Conn.) placed 24th in the event with a time of 26:09.1.

 

Both Buccaneer squads return to action on Saturday morning by heading to Worcester, Mass. to compete in the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta that begins at 9:00 a.m.
