Crew Fares Well Against Top Regional Competition At Quinsigamond Snake Regatta

WORCESTER, Mass.--  Both Massachusetts Maritime crew teams fared well against some of the region’s top squads on Saturday afternoon, as the Buccaneers posted solid performances at the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta on Lake Quinsigamond.

 

The women’s novice four consisting of freshman coxswain Scott Camacho (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and fellow freshmen Brianna Caissie (Webster, Mass.), Shannon Turley (Groton, Mass.), Emily Bacchiocchi (Wareham, Mass.) and Christina Brennan (Halifax, Mass.) placed seventh with a time of 23:26.546, while the men’s novice four consisting of freshman coxswain Matthew Greenspan (Plantation, Fla.) and fellow freshmen Erik Mattson (Forestdale, Mass.), Anthony Moore (Woods Hole, Mass.), Alexander Swiniarski (Plymouth, Mass.) and David Tolle (Bourne, Mass.) finished eighth in the event with a time of 25:24.278.

 

Massachusetts Maritime’s men’s varsity four entries posted a pair of top 20 finishes in the competition, as the “A” boat comprised of junior coxswain James Belbin (Carver, Mass.), juniors Ryan Skavis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Andrew Murphy (Randolph, Mass.), along with sophomores James Coburn (Higganum, Conn.) and Anthony Bratica (Milford, Mass.), placed 17th with a time of 17:17.872.  The “B” entry of senior coxswain Jillian Stronk (Cheshire, Conn.) and sophomores Timothy Birch (Hollis, N.H.), Jeffrey Kahler (Brattleboro, Vt.), James Lucenta (Yorktown, Va.) and Matthew Peluso (Ledyard, Conn.) finished 20th with a time of 18:53.028.

 

The Buccaneer women’s varsity four finished 23th in its competition and bested Division I Holy Cross in the event, as the entry was comprised of coxswain Lucenta, Stronk and sophomores Madisen Buttner (Lakeville, Mass.), Laura Hahn (Colchester, Conn.) and Cassandra Charpentier (New Bedford, Mass.).

 

Massachusetts Maritime will compete at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta in Cambridge, Mass. next weekend.
