Crew Squads Close Out Spring Campaigns With Trio Of Top Six Finishes In Petite Finals At New England Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime crew squads completed their respective spring schedules on Saturday afternoon with a trio of top six finishes in the petite finals of the New England Championships that took place on Lake Quinsigamond.

 

The Buccaneer men’s varsity four consisting of junior coxswain James Belbin (Carver, Mass.), juniors Ryan Skavis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Andrew Murphy (Randolph, Mass.) along with sophomores James Coburn (Higganum, Conn.) and Anthony Bratica (Milford, Mass.), placed fourth in the Petite Final with a time of 7:41.37, while Massachusetts Maritime’s women’s varsity four comprised of freshman coxswain Eduardo Quijano (Avon, Conn.), senior Jillian Stronk (Cheshire, Conn.), Christina Brennan and freshmen Summer Cawley (Riverview, Fla.) and Brianna Caissie (Webster, Mass.) placed fifth in the Petite Final with a time of 10:24.62.  Additionally, the men’s second varsity four comprised of senior coxswain Alexander Miemiec (Hebron, Conn.) and sophomores Michael Pieroni (Arlington, Mass.), Jeffrey Kahler (Brattleboro, Vt.), Matthew Peluso (Ledyard, Conn.) and Thomas Miceli (Unionville, Conn.) posted a sixth place Petite Final time of 9:00.53.

 

Boston College took top honors in the men’s varsity four Petite Final, while Coast Guard captured the women’s varsity four top spot in the race.  Vermont edged out UConn in the men’s second varsity four to claim first place in that event.
