Crew Squads Close Out Fall Slate With Five Top Four Finishes At Amherst Fall Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass.--  Both Massachusetts Maritime crew squads completed their respective fall seasons with five top four performances at the Amherst Fall Invitational that took place on the Connecticut River Saturday afternoon.

 

The Buccaneer women’s varsity four consisting of sophomore coxswain James Lucenta (Yorktown, Va.), senior Jillian Stronk (Cheshire, Conn.) and sophomores Madisen Buttner (Lakeville, Mass.), Laura Hahn (Colchester, Conn.) and Cassandra Charpentier (New Bedford, Mass.) placed fourth overall with a time of 16:44, while the women’s novice four consisting of freshman coxswain Scott Camacho (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and fellow freshmen Brianna Caissie (Webster, Mass.), Shannon Turley (Groton, Mass.), Emily Bacchiocchi (Wareham, Mass.) and Christina Brennan (Halifax, Mass.) also placed fourth with a time of 17:56.  Connecticut College took top honors in the varsity four, while Clark earned the win in the novice four race.

 

The Buccaneer men’s varsity four consisting of coxswain Stronk, juniors Ryan Skavis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Andrew Murphy (Randolph, Mass.), as well as sophomores James Coburn (Higganum, Conn.) and Anthony Bratica (Milford, Mass.), finished third with a time of 13:12, while the second men’s varsity four comprised of coxswain Lucenta and fellow sophomores Timothy Birch (Hollis, N.H.), Jeffrey Kahler (Brattleboro, Vt.), Charles Mojick (Shelton, Conn.) and Matthew Peluso (Ledyard, Conn.) third in their race with a time of 14:29, as Connecticut College and Amherst earned respective victories.

 

Massachusetts Maritime’s men’s novice four consisting of freshman coxswain Matthew Greenspan (Plantation, Fla.) and fellow freshmen Erik Mattson (Forestdale, Mass.), Anthony Moore (Woods Hole, Mass.), Alexander Swiniarski (Plymouth, Mass.) and David Tolle (Bourne, Mass.) finished fourth with a time of 15:53, with Connecticut College again taking top honors in the event.

 

Massachusetts Maritime will begin its Spring 2015 schedule in late March.
