Crew Posts Solid Performances In Three Team Regatta Against UConn, UMass Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime men’s and women’s crew teams posted solid performances in a three-team regatta against UConn and host UMass Lowell on Saturday afternoon on the Merrimack River.

 

The Buccaneer women’s varsity four consisting of freshman coxswain Katherine Rastallis (East Falmouth, Mass.), junior Jillian Stronk (Cheshire, Conn.) and freshmen Madisen Buttner (Lakeville, Mass.), Laura Hahn (Colchester, Conn.) and Genevieve Devine (Canton, Mass.) placed third with a time of 7:32.44, while the men’s varsity four consisting of sophomore coxswain James Belbin (Carver, Mass.), fellow sophomores Andrew Murphy (Randolph, Mass.), Ryan Skavis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Eric DeMarines (Pepperell, Mass.) as well as freshman James Coburn (Higganum, Conn.) finished fifth with a time of 6:22.40.

 

Massachusetts Maritime’s men’s novice eight comprised of freshman coxswain Jack McMurrer (Brewster, Mass.) and fellow freshmen Sam Perriello (Weymouth, Mass.), Matthew Peluso (Ledyard, Conn.), Marcus Mazyck (Kingston, Mass.), Benjamin Monteiro (North Falmouth, Mass.), Kevin Graney (Hanover, Mass.), Michael Pieroni (Arlington, Mass.), Jeffrey Kahler (Brattleboro, Vt.) and James Lucenta (Yorktown, Va.) finished third with a time of 7:15.97 in the event, and the Buccaneers posted respective third and fourth place performance times of 6:56.05 and 7:51.53 in the men’s novice four, with Perriello, sophomore Dylan White (Weymouth, Mass.) and freshmen Anthony Bratica (Milford, Mass.), Timothy Birch (Hollis, N.H.) and Matthew Palmer (Paxton, Mass.) comprising the “A” boat and the tandem of McMurrer, Pieroni, Kahler, and freshmen Stephen Gillis (Stoughton, Mass.) and Charles Mojcik (Shelton, Conn.) in the “B” entry.

 

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Brandeis, Bryant, Endicott, Franklin Pierce and Roger Williams in a regatta next Saturday morning at the Keith Hartford Sailing Center in Bourne, Mass. beginning at 9:00 a.m.
