Women's Crew Records Pair Of Top Five Finishes At Quinsigamond Snake Regatta, New Hampshire Championships

WORCESTER, Mass./PEMBROKE, N.H. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime crew squads were in action in a pair of events over the weekend, as the Buccaneers recorded solid performances at both the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta on Saturday and the New Hampshire Championships on Sunday.

 

Saturday’s action on Lake Quinsigamond saw the men’s novice eight “A” entry, which was comprised of freshman coxswain Austin Garant (Tiverton, R.I.) as well as fellow freshmen Matthew Palmer (Paxton, Mass.), Taylor Langley (Fall River, Mass.), James Lucenta (Yorktown, Va.), Timothy Birch (Hollis, N.H.), Tim Currier (West Bridgewater, Mass.), Anthony Bratica (Milford, Mass.), Benjamin Gilroy (Hillsborough, N.J.) and Michael Pieroni (Arlington, Mass.) finished 11th with a time of 18:40.4, while the Massachusetts Maritime novice eight “B” boat comprised of freshman coxswain Ryan Molokie (Cream Ridge, N.J.), sophomore Dylan White (Weymouth, Mass.) and freshmen Kyle Blakeman (Mashpee, Mass.), Ryan Michaud (Woodstock, Conn.), Kasmir Yakimowicz (Lewes, Del.), Michael Sennott (Westwood, Mass.), Adam Azanow (Natick, Mass.), Sam Perriello (Weymouth, Mass.), Stephen Gillis (Stoughton, Mass.) and finished 12th with a time of 21:13.1.

 

The Buccaneer women’s novice four consisting of freshman coxswain Jack McMurrer (Brewster, Mass.) and fellow freshmen Kimberly Quiroz-Zambrano (Panama City, Panama), Laura Hahn (Colchester, Conn.), Genevieve Devine (Canton, Mass.) and Stephanie Granger recorded a fifth place finish with a time of 27:15.7, while the women’s varsity four comprised of sophomore coxswain Nicole Venuto (Somerset, Mass.), fellow sophomores Cassie Sanderson (North Dighton, Mass.) and Cassie Swanson (Quincy, Mass.) as well as freshmen Madisen Buttner (Lakeville, Mass.) and Sierra Taylor (Nashville, Tenn.) placed 17th with a time of 22:47.3.

 

The men’s varsity eight comprised of sophomore coxswain James Belbin (Carver, Mass.), senior Alex Jagielski (Guilford, Conn.), sophomores Ryan Skavis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Eric DeMarines (Pepperell, Mass.) as well as freshmen Mitchell Nixon (Virginia Beach, Va.), James Coburn (Higganum, Conn.), Thomas Miceli (Unionville, Conn.), Mark Kiss (Guilford, Conn.) and Peter Mungara (Worcester, Mass.), recorded an 13th place finish with a time of 16:25.1, while the men’s varsity four consisting of Venuto, Mungara and sophomores Andrew Murphy (Randolph, Mass.), Peter Schultz (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Mitchell Bovarnick (Medfield, Mass.) placed 14th with a time of 18:10.8.

 

Sunday’s competition at the New Hampshire Championships saw the women’s novice four of freshman coxswain Katherine Rastallis (East Falmouth, Mass.), Hahn, Granger, Quiroz-Zambrano and Devine place third with a time of 24:23.4, while the men’s varsity four of coxswain Belbin, Schultz, Murphy, Bovarnick and Palmer placed fifth with a time of 19:12.2.  The women’s varsity four of coxswain Venuto, Sanderson, Buttner, Swanson and Taylor added a sixth place finish with a time of 22:19.6.

 

The men’s novice eight “A” boat consisting of coxswain Molokie, Palmer, Langley, Lucenta, Birch, Currier, Bratica, Pieroni and Gilroy placed fourth with a time of 19:07.3, while the “B” entry of freshman coxswain Henrry Sosa (Brewster, N.Y.), Blakeman, Mungara, Michaud, White, Gillis, McMurrer, Azanow and freshman Matthew Peluso (Ledyard, Conn.) finished fifth with a mark of 21:42.7.  The men’s varsity eight squad of coxswain Belbin, Skavis, Kiss, Coburn, Jagielski, DeMarines, Nixon, Miceli and Mungara notched a fifth place finish with a time of 16:59.5.

 
Both Massachusetts Maritime teams travel to Cambridge, Mass. next Saturday morning to compete at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta beginning at 9:00 a.m.
