Crew Squads Open Spring Schedules With Top Three Performances At Amherst

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime men’s and women’s crew teams opened their respective spring schedules with three top four finishes in competition against Franklin Pierce, Mount Holyoke and host Amherst on Saturday afternoon on the Connecticut River.

 

The Buccaneer men’s varsity four consisting of sophomore coxswain James Belbin (Carver, Mass.), fellow sophomores Andrew Murphy (Randolph, Mass.) and Ryan Skavis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and freshmen Thomas Miceli (Unionville, Conn.) and James Coburn (Higganum, Conn.) finished second to Amherst with a time of 6:34, while the women’s varsity four consisting of freshman coxswain Katherine Rastallis (East Falmouth, Mass.), junior Jillian Stronk (Cheshire, Conn.) and freshmen Madisen Buttner (Lakeville, Mass.), Laura Hahn (Colchester, Conn.) and Genevieve Devine (Canton, Mass.) placed fourth with a time of 8:35.

 

The men’s novice four consisting of freshman coxswain Sam Perriello (Weymouth, Mass.), sophomore Dylan White (Weymouth, Mass.) and freshmen Anthony Bratica (Milford, Mass.), Timothy Birch (Hollis, N.H.) and James Lucenta (Yorktown, Va.) recorded a third place finish on the day with a time of 7:17.

 

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Lowell, Mass. next Saturday morning to take on UMass Lowell in dual-meet action on the Merrimack River beginning at 9:00 a.m.
