Crew Squads Record Pair Of Top Six Performances At UMass Lowell Regatta

LOWELL, Mass. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime crew squads returned to the Merrimack River for a second straight weekend on Saturday to post solid performances in competition with Coast Guard, Colby, Franklin Pierce and host UMass Lowell.

On the men’s side, the varsity four “A” contingent of freshman coxswain John Hubert (Trumbull, Conn.), juniors Josh Lamm (North Andover, Mass.), Matthew Mourey (Franklin, Mass.) and Devin McNeil (Westford, Mass.), along with sophomore Alex Jagielski (Guilford, Conn.), finished third with a time of 7:21, while the “B” tandem of junior coxswain Lauren Denapoli (Bostonm, Mass.), senior Mark Brien (Methuen, Mass.), sophomores Andrew MacDonald (Franklin, Mass.) and Maxwell Horton (Malden, Mass.), along with freshman Ryan Gilliland (Barnstable, Mass.), finished fifth with a time of 8:28.

The women’s varsity four consisting of junior coxswain Janeen Manghis (Nantucket, Mass.), Denapoli, junior Alicia Tarr (Danvers, Mass.), sophomore Kelsie Brien (Methuen, Mass.) and freshman Jillian Stronk (Cheshire, Conn.) posted a sixth place finish in competition with a time of 9:01, while the men’s varsity novice four consisting of freshman coxswain Anthony Downs (West Roxbury, Mass.), senior Colin Giles (Brentwood, N.H.) and freshmen Paul Cullen (Gardner, Mass.), Joshua Leonardi (Sandwich, Mass.) and James Mattson (Marion, Mass.) finished fifth with a time of 8:24.

Both Buccaneer squads return to action on Sunday, April 22nd when Massachusetts Maritime heads to Worcester, Mass. to compete against Amherst, Brandeis, UMass Lowell, Wentworth and host Clark beginning at 9:00 a.m.
