Crew Posts Pair Of Top 20 Finishes In Season Opening Event At Textile River Regatta

LOWELL, Mass. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime crew teams opened their respective Fall 2011 schedules by competing at the Textile River Regatta Sunday afternoon on the Merrimack River.

The men’s varsity “A” boat consisting of sophomore coxswain David Mackay (Panama City, Panama), juniors Josh Lamm (North Andover, Mass.), Matthew Mourey (Franklin, Mass.) and Devin McNeil (Westford, Mass.), along with sophomore Alex Jagielski (Guilford, Conn.), finished 17th among the 25 entrants in the competition with a time of 21:36.  The men’s varsity “B” boat consisting of sophomore coxswain Matthew Lester (Monroe Township, N.J.), senior Mark Brien (Methuen, Mass.) and sophomores Tyler Fifield (Wakefield, Mass.), Andrew MacDonald (Franklin, Mass.) and Maxwell Horton (Malden, Mass.) placed 24th in the event with a time of 23:09.2.

The women’s varsity four consisting of sophomore coxswain Lisa Burke (Hanson, Mass.), juniors Lauren Denapoli (Boston, Mass.) and Alicia Tarr (Danvers, Mass.) and sophomores Kelsie Brien (Methuen, Mass.) and Amanda Tine (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished 20th in competition with a time of 25:42.9, as WPI took top team honors in the event.

Both Buccaneer squads return to action next Sunday by heading to New Bedford, Mass. to participate in the Pope’s Island Regatta that begins at 9:00 a.m.
