Bucs Split with Trailblazers in Conference Doubleheader

NORTH ADAMS, Mass – Following their game one loss to MCLA at home, 7-0, on Friday afternoon, the Bucs travelled to MCLA to finish off the three-game conference series on Sunday. Maritime took game one, 2-1 and lost game two 4-3 in nine innings.

 

Game One

How It Happened

The scoring in this low-scoring affair began in the bottom of the second inning when MCLA's Jeff Bink reached first on a Maritime error, allowing Jake Ferrara to score.

Down 1-0, the Buccaneers evened things up and then took the lead for good in the top of the third frame. They tied the contest on a Marley Dembitzki (North Dartmouth, Mass) double to right field, plating Paul Sances (Middleboro, Mass). They scored what would prove to be the winning run on a Jackson Simone (Seattle, Wash) single to left, allowing Dembitzki to score.

At The Plate

MCLA had just two hits in the game, 2-for-19 at the plate. Logan Rumbolt and Jake Ferarra were responsible for the two hits. Ferrara's was the only one with an extra base hit, a double.

The Trailblazers walked twice, struck out twice and left three runners on base.

Maritime batted 6-for-25 in game one. Nick Haley (Hanson, Mass) had two hits in the game.

Dembitzki had the lone extra-base hit for the Bucs.

The Buccaneers walked twice, stuck out five times and left five runners on base.

 

Game Two

How It Happened

The Bucs grabbed the early lead in game two, scoring in the top of the second to take a 1-0 lead on an AJ Luciano (Lynn, Mass) single scoring Nick Haley (Hanson, Mass). Maritime extended the lead to 2-0 in the top of the third on a Haley single, bringing in Paul Sances (Middleboro, Mass) to score.

MCLA cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the fourth on a wild pitch, scoring Logan Rumbolt.

In the top of the sixth, the Bucs scored their third and final run on another Luciano single, scoring Haley again. At the time, the run would prove vital for Maritime as the 'Blazers scored a second run in the bottom of the sixth frame to bring the score to 3-2.

Looking a doubleheader sweep in the face and a 2-1 series win over MCLA, the Bucs allowed a third and game-tying run to MCLA in the bottom of the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly.

In the first extra frame, neither team was able to score, the Bucs were unable to retake the lead in the top of the ninth. In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Trailblazers walked off with a 4-3 victory on a Ferrara RBI single.

MCLA has nine hits in game two, going 9-for-31 at the plate. Rumbolt had four hits, Ferrara had two. Each scored once and Ferrara drove in a run.

The Trailblazers drew five walks, struck out seven times and left eight runners on base.

Maritime batted 6-for-30 in the game. Luciano had two hits and two RBI. Haley also drove in a run and scored on both of Luciano's hits.

The Bucs walked four times, struck out five times and left six runners on base.
