Falcons Complete Comeback to Beat Bucs in MASCAC Opener

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass – Friday marked the first game of conference play for the MASCAC baseball teams. The Buccaneers drew Fitchburg State in the first three-game conference series of the season which they played at New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, Mass with FSU as the home team.

How It Happened

The game was a pitcher's duel for the first three innings as neither team brought a run across. In the fourth inning, the Bucs scored three times, twice on a Ben Paine (Dartmouth, Mass) single to left field. Fitchburg answered in the bottom of the inning, scoring once to cut the Buc lead to 3-1. The Falcons scored another run in the bottom of the fifth, cutting the deficit to one.

In the top of the seventh, the Buccaneers scored three more times, starting with a Jackson Simone (Seattle, Wash) home run, his second of the season. After six and a half innings, Maritime had a 6-2 lead, their biggest of the game. In the bottom of the frame, Fitchburg scored four runs to tie the game with a two run home run and a two run double.

Tied at six, the Falcons took the lead for the first time and for good in the bottom of the eighth scoring three runs to take a 9-7 lead.

Marley Dembitzki (North Dartmouth, Mass) hit a homer in the top of the ninth, his first of the season, in an attempted comeback but it wouldn't be enough as the Falcons closed out the 9-7 victory in the MASCAC opener.
