Hawks Swoop Past Bucs in Late Comback

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass – In a game in which Becker played the home team at Mass Maritime due to the game site being switched, the Hawks made a late push, coming back from 5-1 down to beat the Buccaneers 10-1 at commodore Hendy Field.

How It Happened

Maritime scored first in the top of the first inning on a wild pitch that scored Paul Sances (Middleboro, Mass). They scored second as well, in the third inning on a Dylan Sullo (Acushnett, Mass) single that plated Matt Langan (North Easton, Mass). Maritime added two more runs in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead on an Alex Schlapak (Dover, N.H.) triple, scoring Sullo and Ben Paine (Dartmouth, Mass). Becker finally answered in the bottom of the fifth which the Bucs matched in the top of the sixth with Sances scoring on a wild pitch for the second time in the game.

At that point, the momentum changed drastically in favor of the Hawks. Becker went on to tie and ultimately take the lead in the bottom of the seventh scoring six runs, most notably on a Noah Rivera (New Bedford, Mass) double that scored two runs and a Kevin Santiago (New Bedford, Mass) single that also scored two runs.

Up 7-5, Becker added three more runs in the eighth to take a five-run, 10-5, lead. Maritime added a run in the ninth as Schlapak scored on a fielder's choice but that is where the scoring would end and Becker left with the 10-6 comeback victory.
