Nighthawks Best Buccaneers in Buzzards Bay

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass – Buc Ball hosted 0-5 Newbury College Wednesday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field. Thought they took an early lead, the Nighthawks bested the Bucs 15-3.

How It Happened

Maritime scored first, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a Nick Haley (Hanson, Mass) home run, his first of the season, and first of the game. The Buccaneer lead was wiped out in the top of the second as Newbury scored two runs, tying the game on a Christopher Tran (Nantucket, Mass) sacrifice fly to left.

The teams failed to score again until the bottom of the fourth when Haley homered for the second time in the game to tie the game at 2-2.

Newbury scored in the bottom of the fifth to take a lead they would never relinquish. They added a run in the sixth to take a two-run, 4-2, lead. The Nighthawks continued to score in the seventh, plating two runs, another three in the eighth and then breaking off six runs in the top of the ninth.

Maritime scored a third run in the bottom of the ninth as Jackson Simone (Seattle, Wash) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The game would end in favor of the Nighthawks, 15-3.
