BucBall Splits with Johnson & Wales; Earn Second Win of Season

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass – The Buccaneer baseball team capped off a six game in six days run of games with a double header against Johnson & Wales on Saturday afternoon on Taylor's Point. While game one did not go the way the Bucs wanted it to, falling 14-6, they bounced back in game two, winning 2-0.

Game One

How It Happened

JWU scored two or more runs in five of the seven innings in game one of the double header. Opening the scoring in the top of the first with two runs on an Armani Henderson (Johnston, R.I.) double that plated two runs.

The second inning was fruitful for both teams, the Wildcats scoring three runs, two on a Retsyn Ooton (Pawtucket, R.I.) single. Maritime scored two runs in the bottom of the inning on back-to-back hit by pitches with the bases loaded, RBI credited to Michael Doyle (Boston, Mass) and Ben Paine (Dartmouth, Mass).

Johnson & Wales continued their scoring in to the third adding three more runs to take an 8-2 lead which they extended to 11-2 two innings later, in the fifth, on an Ooton bases clearing double which scored three runs.

The fifth, sixth and seventh for Maritime were productive, scoring one in the fifth on an infield hit, one in the sixth on a fielding error and one in the seventh on a wild pitch. During that time, however, the Wildcats added three runs in the top of the seventh inning which sealed their 14-6 game one win over the Bucs.

JWU racked up 12 hits and drew 11 walks in the game, scoring 14 runs and left 12 runners on base.

Leadoff hitter Colby Greenhalg (Plainfield, Conn) scored four times in the game. We went 1-for-4 and drew three walks.

Ooton was a perfect 3-for-3 and drove in five runs for the Wildcats.

Three hitters has multi-hit games for the guests.

The Wildcats had four extra base hits in the game, all doubles, all by different players.

Maritime had seven hits in the game from seven different hitters. They also drew seven walks and struckout six times.

The Bucs left 15 runners on base in the game.

All seven of the Maritime hits were singles.

Paine, Doyle and Francis Aten (Brockton, Mass) were responsible for the RBI for the Buccaneers.

Game 2

How It Happened

Unlike game one, which had 20 combined runs scored and lasted three hours and 18 minutes, game two had two total runs and lasted two hours. The Buccaneers kept the Wildcats from crossing the plate due to the performance of John Teehan (Boston, Mass) on the mound, who allowed just two hits and struck out 12 hitters. The Buc offense scored the only two runs of the game off of James Smiegocki (West Amwell, N.J.) whose performance was in line with that of Teehan. The Bucs took the game 2-0 for their second win of the season.

At The Plate

The pitcher's duel between Teehan and Smiegocki was the highlight of the game as they allowed a combined eight hits and five walks.

The Wildcats two hits were both singles from Vin Amalfitano (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Tim Lombardi (Providence, R.I.).

JWU drew five walks, struck out 12 times and left seven runners on base.

Paul Sances (Middleboro, Mass) had the lone multi-hit game for the Buccaneers and scored a run.

Jackson Simone (Seattle, Wash) and Ben Paine (Dartmouth, Mass) each had a double in the game, the only two Buc extra base hits. Simone is credited with the lone RBI in the game as well.

Though the Bucs drew no walks, they only struck out eight times and left just two runners on base in the game.
