BUZZARDS BAY, Mass – The Buccaneer baseball team played their fourth game in four days on Thursday afternoon, hosting Wentworth in non-conference play. The Leopards put their foot on the gas early and didn't let off, beating the Buccaneers, 18-2, at Commodore Hendy Field.

 

How It Happened

Wentworth took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first and the Buccaneers answered in the bottom of the inning on a Jackson Simone (Seattle, Wash) single which scored Paul Sances (Middleboro, Mass) to make the score 2-1 after the first inning.

Over the next four innings, the Leopards scored 13 runs, five in the second, two in the third, four in the fourth and two in the fifth. In the midst of the Wentworth scoring spree, the Bucs scored a second run on a Matt Langan (North Easton, Mass) sacrifice fly, scoring Marley Dembitzki (North Dartmouth, Mass). After five, the Bucs trailed 15-2.

The Bucs wouldn't score again and Wentworth added three in the eighth to round out the scoring, earning the visitos the 18-2 victory.

Maritime racked up 10 hits in the game. Sances, Simone, and Nick Haley (Hanson, Mass) each had multi-hit games.

Sances, Simone and Langan were responsible for the three extra base hits, all doubles, by the Bucs.

The Buccaneers drew no walks and struck out 11 times in the game and left nine runners on base.

Wentworth had 20 hits and drew nine walks off Maritime pitching.

Eight Wentworth hitters had multi-hit games. Aidan French (Chicago, Ill) and Nolan McManus (Milton, Mass) each had three hits.

Andrew Elliott (Rockland, Mass) and Devin Haberstumpf (Forest Hills, N.Y.) each had three runs batted in of 16 for the Leopards.
