Sullo, Smith Listed on MASCAC Honor Roll

The Buccaneer baseball team had an excellent four-game run last week and two players, in particular, showed particularly fine form. Thanks to their achievements, Logan Sullo and Matt Smith were listed on the MASCAC Honor Roll, released today.

Sullo, who was tabbed to the Honor Roll last week as well, had another dominant performances. The Acushnet, Mass. native displayed his incredible power despite seeing hardly anything to hit. Sullo was 3-for-11 in four games, but his hits went for an RBI-double, a run-scoring single, and a go-ahead grand slam in a come-from-behind MASCAC win at Fitchburg State. The senior backstop caught four games and drew a whopping six walks for a .273/.529/.636 line. On the season, Sullo is slashing .417/.553/.972 with 11 runs and 19 RBI in 12 games.

Smith had his best offering of the season in a 5-0 win over Becker. The sophomore right-hander tossed eight shutout frames, scattering only five hits and three walks. The Lowell, Mass. resident punched out eight and finished his afternoon with a stellar bit of fielding in a crucial 1-5-3 double play. Smith has struck out 24 batters in 21 1/3 innings this year and his 10.1 strikeouts per nine innings rank ninth in the MASCAC.

Today's game at UMass-Dartmouth has been postponed, so Sullo, Smith, and the rest of Coach Mike Kelley's men will be in action in single games against Coast Guard (6-8) and Wentworth (5-6) on Wednesday and Thursday at Hendy Field. Admission is free and all are welcome to the 3:30 first pitch each day.
