Buccaneer Baseball Drops Pair to Johnson and Wales

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Buccaneer baseball team (2-4) dropped a pair of games to Johnson & Wales on Sunday, losing both games by a score of 5-0 in Providence, RI.  In the first game, Buc pitcher Matt Smith (0-1) took the loss as he gave up five runs on six hits in four innings of work. Smith struck out three batters and walked two.  Senior Logan Sullo was the lone bright spot for the Bucs as he went 2-3 from the plate.  The Buccaneers collected a total of four hits for the day, left nine on base and committed two errors.  Keith Grant (3-0) was the winning pitcher for Johnson & Wales.  The Wildcats had seven hits on offense and committed three errors on defense. 

In the second game, the Buccaneers were shut out again by the same 5-0 score.  John Teehan (0-1, Hyde Park, MA) took the loss on the mound for MMA.  Teehan only gave up two hits over five innings but he allowed three earned runs.  Colin Thoener (Foxborough, MA) pitched one inning for the Bucs, allowing two earned runs on three hits.  Jackson Simone led the Bucs in batting while going 2-2 in the game.  James Smiegocki (1-2) pitched all seven innings allowing four hits and fanning 9 Buc batters. 

The Buccaneer nine is scheduled to play Wentworth Institute of Technology on Wednesday, March 14 as MMA will play their first game on the new artificial surface at the Commodore William R. Hendy Jr. Field.   The game will begin at 3:30 pm if not postponed by the predicted Nor'easter coming through Buzzards Bay.
