Sullo Named To 2017 D3baseball.com Pre-Season Division III All-America Team

Massachusetts Maritime junior catcher Logan Sullo has been named to the 2017 D3baseball.com Pre-Season Division III All-America team, as the two-time reigning Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year earned honorable mention pre-season honors heading into the spring.
A native of Acushnet, Mass. and a graduate of Bishop Stang High School, Sullo has earned both American Baseball Coaches Association all-region and New England Intercollegiate Baseball Coaches Association all-New England accolades in his first two campaigns in a Buccaneer uniform. Logan batted .419 with nine doubles, four triples, seven homers and 30 RBI while starting all 40 games for Massachusetts Maritime in 2016, as he amassed 90 total bases while posting a .726 slugging percentage and a .528 on-base percentage. Sullo paced the Buccaneers in nine total offensive categories, and he ranked among the top 30 in NCAA Division III play nationally for most of the season in both slugging percentage and on-base percentage.
In his two seasons of play on Taylor’s Point, Sullo has rapped out 85 hits (36 for extra bases) and driven in 48 runs while batting .429 and recording a .753 slugging percentage. He has also notched a .533 career on-base percentage that includes 35 walks, and Logan has reached base in 136 of his 256 total plate appearances. Logan, who was also tabbed as the 2015 MASCAC Rookie of the Year, is one of five two-time all-New England performers in program history, and he additionally earned first team D3baseball.com all-East Regional honors last season.
Sullo is one of 42 players named to this year’s pre-season All-America squad and is one of four student-athletes representing New England schools. MIT’s Austin Filere earned a spot on the first team, while Eastern Connecticut’s Alex Zachary and Tufts’ Speros Varinos were each named to the second team.
Massachusetts Maritime posted the third highest single-season win total in school history under first-year Head Coach Mike Kelley in 2016, as the Buccaneers finished the year at 24-16 overall and advanced to their first-ever appearance in the MASCAC championship round before falling to eventual champion Salem State. Kelley’s crew also made its second straight trip to the ECAC New England semifinals, as Massachusetts Maritime fell to eventual title winner MIT after topping Brandeis in quarterfinal round action.
The Buccaneers open their 2017 slate on Monday, February 27th by taking on Houghton (N.Y.) in a non-league doubleheader in Fort Pierce, Fla. that begins at 12:30 p.m. EST.
