Simone Earns Second MASCAC Baseball Rookie Of The Week Accolade Of Season

Massachusetts Maritime freshman first baseman Jackson Simone was named as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Rookie of the Week for the second time this season on Monday afternoon for his efforts in four Buccaneer contests played over the weekend.

A native of Seattle, Wash. and a graduate of Roosevelt High School, Simone batted .455 (5-11) with a pair of doubles, two runs scored, three walks and four RBI on the week.  Jackson drove in the winning run and earned his first career save in a 7-6 triumph at Worcester State on Sunday, and he also plated a pair of tallies in a 7-2 victory over Fitchburg State on Saturday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field.  Simone recorded a .600 on-base percentage and a .636 slugging percentage in the four games and handled all 32 chances in the field cleanly.

On the season, Simone paces Head Coach Mike Kelley’s squad at the plate with a .359 batting average that includes five doubles, a triple and 14 RBI.  Jackson also copped the MASCAC Rookie of the Week honor two weeks ago after batting .400 with a double and four RBI in wins over Johnson & Wales and Dean.

Massachusetts Maritime returns to action on Tuesday afternoon when the Buccaneers entertain Fisher in a non-league outing at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at 3:30 p.m. EDT.
