FINAL:              MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 18, DEAN 9

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Connor Kennedy (West Barnstable, Mass.) and freshman Ethan O’Hare (Marshfield, Mass.) each collected three hits and four RBI as Massachusetts Maritime overcame a four-run sixth inning deficit by scoring 17 runs in its final three at-bats to post an 18-9 non-league college baseball victory over Dean Tuesday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field.

The host Buccaneers (4-2) trailed 5-1 before evening matter with a four-run sixth inning rally, as a two-run single by O’Hare, coupled with an RBI safety from fellow freshman Nick Haley (Hanson, Mass.) and an error, accounted for the scoring in the frame.  Massachusetts Maritime, which sent 10 batters to the plate in the sixth, followed that up with a decisive nine-run outburst in the bottom of the seventh that saw the Buccaneers score eight times with two outs.  Freshman Matt Langan’s (North Easton, Mass.) sacrifice fly plated the go-ahead run for the hosts, who received O’Hare second two-run single in as many innings along with a two-run triple off the bat of Kennedy as well as run scoring singles off the bats of junior Logan Sullo (Acushnet, Mass.) and freshman Jackson Simone (Seattle, Wash.) in sending an additional 13 batters to the plate in the 27-minute half inning.

The visiting Bulldogs (2-7) answered back in the top of the eighth on sophomore Christopher Wood’s (Berkley, Mass.) three-run homer to right center to close back to within six (14-8), but Massachusetts Maritime iced its triumph with another four run outburst in the bottom of the frame highlighted by Kennedy’s two-run single, an RBI safety from senior Jake Petruzzelli (Abington, Mass.) and a fielder’s choice off the bat of senior Aidan Desrosiers (North Attleboro, Mass.) to close out its scoring.

Dean jumped out to a 3-0 second inning advantage, as the visitors plated an unearned run in the first before receiving an RBI double from sophomore Timothy Lombardi (Providence, R.I.) that was followed by a run-scoring single off the bat of sophomore John Cerretani (Salem, N.H.).   The Buccaneers got on the board in the second on Haley’s RBI groundout, but the Bulldogs tacked on single tallies in the fourth on sophomore Daniel Blazejewski’s (Stewartsville, N.J.) fourth homer of the season and in the fifth on an error to take their 5-1 lead, setting the stage for the hosts’ late heroics.

Simone also collected three hits as part of a 17-hit attack for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received two hits each from Sullo and sophomore Robert Dembitzki (North Dartmouth, Mass.).  Sophomore Travis Zurowski (Brooklyn, Conn.), the fourth of five Buccaneer hurlers on the day, picked up the win after fanning a pair over 1 1/3 innings of work, as freshman Andrew Auld (Wakefield, Mass.) also fanned three in three innings of relief for the hosts.  Cerretani recorded three of Dean’s 10 hits in the setback, as the Bulldogs also received two hits each from Blazejewski and sophomore Ivan Vazquez (Caguas, P.R.).  Senior Jon Lawlor (Mansfield, Mass.) suffered the setback on the mound for the visitors, as he recorded a strikeout in allowing nine earned runs over the final two innings.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Gordon in a non-league outing on Thursday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Dean travels to Lynn, Mass. on Friday afternoon to square off with Fisher in a non-league contest that begins at 5:00 p.m.
