FINAL:              BABSON 5, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 0

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior righthander Teddy Carey (Upton, Mass.) tossed a one-hit shutout and struck out five over seven innings of work to lead Babson to a 5-0 non-league college baseball victory over Massachusetts Maritime Thursday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field.

Junior David Lennon (Windemere, Fla.) provided the only runs that the visiting Beavers (2-2) would need with a two-out, two-run double in the top of the second, and Babson extended that margin to 3-0 in the sixth on freshman Sean Harrington’s (Walpole, Mass.) RBI single.  Junior Adam Ayala (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) provided a pair of insurance tallies for the Beavers with a two-out, two-run single in the top of the eighth to account for the final margin, and Carey took care of the rest on the mound for the winners, as he allowed a leadoff single in the first and induced 12 ground ball outs to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Ayala and senior Jack Halpin (Glastonbury, Conn.) collected two hits each as part of a 10-hit attack for Babson, which claimed its first victory over the host Buccaneers (2-1) since April 1981 in the first meeting between the two teams in 34 years.  Freshman Alec Schenning (Fallston, Md.) recorded his first collegiate hit with an eighth inning double for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a base hit off the bat of junior Connor Kennedy (West Barnstable, Mass.) on the day.  Freshman Andrew Auld (Wakefield, Mass.), the first of six Buccaneer hurlers, suffered the setback on the mound in allowing two hits and a pair of runs over the first two frames to fall to 1-1 on the season.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Newbury in a non-league outing on Tuesday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at 3:00 p.m., while Babson will be idle until next Friday, March 17th when the Beavers take on Illinois Wesleyan in a non-league contest in Auburndale, Fla. that begins at 4:00 p.m.
