Avery Named As MASCAC Baseball Pitcher Of The Week

Massachusetts Maritime senior righthander Daniel Avery was named as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon for his performance in last Friday’s 2-1 eight inning victory over Salem State at Commodore Hendy Field.

Avery, a native of Milford, Mass. and a graduate of Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School, went the distance in scattering four hits and allowing an unearned run while striking out a career-high 12 Vikings in the triumph.  The conference accolade is the third of Daniel’s career, as he also copped the honor twice during the 2016 campaign.

Avery, who last season tossed a complete-game two-hitter and struck out six in a 1-0 regular season win at Salem State, has posted a 3-1 overall mark with a 3.90 earned run average with one save in seven appearances in 2017.  Daniel has struck out 36 in 30 innings of work (10.8 per nine innings) and is holding opponents to a .237 batting average to date.

Head Coach Mike Kelley’s Buccaneers bring an 8-9 overall record and a 3-3 MASCAC slate into a league doubleheader at MCLA Monday afternoon.
