GAME #2 FINAL:               MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 6, ELIZABETHTOWN 5

FORT PIERCE, Fla.--  Senior Everett Walsh (Marstons Mills, Mass.) rapped out three hits and drove in a run as Massachusetts Maritime presented Head Coach Mike Kelley with his first career victory by holding off Elizabethtown by a 6-5 final in the nightcap of a non-league college baseball doubleheader played Sunday afternoon at Lawnwood Park.  The Blue Jays used a solid pitching performance by junior Kevin Elwell (Clarks Summit, Pa.) in the opener to notch a 9-0 triumph in the twinbill split.

The Buccaneers (1-2) trailed 2-1 after the first four innings of action but took the lead for good with two runs in the fifth frame, and Massachusetts Maritime extended that margin by tallying twice in the sixth inning and picking up a key insurance run in the top of the seventh to take a 6-2 advantage.  Elizabethtown (1-1) rallied with two runs before an out was recorded in its last at-bat, as the Blue Jays closed to within 6-4 before an unassisted double play by sophomore Casey Furnas (Boca Raton, Fla.) gave the Buccaneers two quick outs.  Freshman Riley Fusaro (Nantucket, Mass.) preserved the milestone win for Kelley, as he recorded the final out via strikeout with the tying run at third base to earn his first career save in his inaugural appearance.

Sophomore William Keane (Braintree, Mass.) added a pair of hits and scored two runs in the triumph for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a pair of hits and an RBI off the bats of juniors Jake Petruzzelli (Abington, Mass.) and Tommy Walls (Hawthorne, N.J.).  Senior Greg Downs (Marshfield, Mass.) also chipped in with two hits for the Buccaneers, as junior Daniel Avery (Milford, Mass.) allowed an unearned run in four innings of work to pick up the win on the mound.

Elwell kept Massachusetts Maritime off the board in the opener for the Blue Jays in their season opener, as senior Alex Rozak (Plymouth, Mass.) suffered the setback on the mound for the Buccaneers.

Massachusetts Maritime opens its Northern schedule on Saturday, March 12th by heading to Providence, R.I. for a non-league doubleheader with Johnson & Wales that begins at Noon, while Elizabethtown squares off with the Buccaneers’ season-opening opponent, Immaculata, in a non-league doubleheader on Monday morning at Lawnwood Park that begins at 11:00 a.m.
