GAME #1 FINAL:          KENYON 3, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 0

GAME #2 FINAL:          KENYON 10, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 3 (11 INNINGS)

FORT PIERCE, Fla. --  Senior Kyle Hardacker (Carmel, Ind.) rapped out three hits, including a two-run double that keyed a seven-run 11th inning rally, to lift Kenyon to a 10-3 nightcap victory over Massachusetts Maritime and a sweep of a non-league college baseball doubleheader Sunday evening at the Lawnwood Complex.  The Lords used a complete-game two-hit shutout by sophomore Thomas Morris (Kaneohe, Hawaii) to take a 3-0 triumph in the opener.

Kenyon (2-0) took a 1-0 lead in its first at-bat of the nightcap on an RBI triple by junior John Nahra (Highland Heights, Ohio), but the Buccaneers (2-3) evened matters in their half of the frame when senior Bobby Rosano (North Reading, Mass.) drew a lead-off walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice, stole third and scored on a fielder’s choice.  Massachusetts Maritime took a 2-1 lead in the second on a run-scoring groundout off the bat of freshman Tyler Chaisson (Newburyport, Mass.), but the Lords tied the game in the third on senior Jake Dunn’s (Fairfield, Conn.) RBI single.  The Buccaneers grabbed a 3-2 advantage in the fourth on a fielding error, and that score held up until the seventh when Kenyon forced extra innings on freshman Matt von Roemer’s (Kendall Park, N.J.) one-out RBI single.  The Lords struck for seven runs in the top of the 11th, as run scoring singles off the bats of Dunn and sophomore Phillip Nam (Republic of Singapore) sandwiched Hardacker’s two-run two-bagger and an error.

Dunn went 5-for-5 and drove in a pair in the nightcap win for Kenyon, which also received three hits Hardacker, Nam and von Roemer as part of a 17-hit attack.  Junior Spencer Byers (Shaker Heights, Ohio) picked up the win in relief with two scoreless innings and four strikeouts for the Lords, who also received 5 2/3 innings of scoreless relief senior Mike Jeffers (Columbus, Ohio).  Sophomore Terrence Mudie (Barnstable, Mass.) collected two of Massachusetts Maritime’s five hits in the second game setback, as junior Alex Rozak (Plymouth, Mass.) suffered the loss on the mound while fanning a pair in 2 1/3 innings of work.

Kenyon provided Morris with all of the runs he would need in a three-run rally in the bottom of the fourth, as Nam’s RBI single was followed by a two-run single off the bat of senior Max Heldman (Gaithersburg, Md.) that closed out the scoring.  Morris walked two and struck out three in the season opener for the Lords, who received two hits each from Nam, Heldman and sophomore Casey Rosenfeld (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) as part of a nine-hit attack.  Freshman Benjamin Crago (Falmouth, Mass.) and Connor Kennedy (West Barnstable, Mass.) each had hits in the opening setback for Massachusetts Maritime, as senior T.J. Notarangelo (Foxboro, Mass.) struck out five over the first four innings on the mound for the Buccaneers.

Massachusetts Maritime is scheduled to open its Northern slate on Saturday, March 14th when the Buccaneers entertain Johnson & Wales in a non-league doubleheader at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at Noon, while Kenyon continues its Southern swing on Monday afternoon with a pair of non-league match-ups with Susquehanna and Wilkes at the Lawnwood Complex.
