FINAL:              MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 9, GORDON 6

NORTHBORO, Mass. --  Freshman Logan Sullo (Dartmouth, Mass.) rapped out four hits and scored three runs to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 9-6 non-league college baseball victory over Gordon Tuesday evening at the New England Baseball Complex.

The Buccaneers (4-3) snapped a 1-1 fourth inning tie when Sullo singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on freshman Benjamin Crago’s (Falmouth, Mass.) RBI single, and Massachusetts Maritime extended that margin to 6-1 with a four-run fifth inning uprising that included run-scoring doubles by Sullo and freshman Cobie Gerbis (Holmes Beach, Fla.), an RBI single by junior Everett Walsh (Marstons Mills, Mass.) and a sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore Aidan Desrosiers (North Attleboro, Mass.).  The Fighting Scots (2-8) got a pair of runs back in the top of the sixth on RBI singles by senior Alonzo Martinez (El Paso, Tex.) and sophomore Jeremy Jackson (Waco, Tex.) to close to within 6-3, but a run-scoring single by sophomore Jake Petruzzelli (Abington, Mass.) in the bottom of the frame gave the Buccaneers a 7-3 cushion heading into the late innings of play.

Gordon closed back to within one at 7-6 after a three-run seventh inning rally, as RBI singles by Martinez, and fellow seniors Jesse Amaya (South Gate, Calif.) and Travis Pullen (Las Vegas, Nev.) plated runs in the frame, but Massachusetts Maritime tacked on a pair of insurance tallies in the bottom half of the inning on Crago’s second run-scoring single of the night and a Petruzzelli sacrifice fly to account for the final score.

Crago, Gerbis, Walsh, Petruzzelli and senior Bobby Rosano (North Reading, Mass.) each collected two hits as part of a season-high 15-hit attack in the win for Massachusetts Maritime, as junior Alex Rozak (Plymouth, Mass.) scattered seven hits and fanned one over the first six innings of work to improve to 2-1 on the season.  Senior Zac Cooney (East Bridgewater, Mass.) tossed two scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth while striking out a pair to pick up his fourth save of the spring for the Buccaneers, who have won two straight on the New England Baseball Complex turf.  Martinez rapped out three hits and drove in three runs in the setback for Gordon, which also received two hits each from senior Mark Fitzgerald (Camarillo, Calif.) and junior Alex Smith (Wethersfield, Conn.) as part of a 13-hit attack.  Junior Scott Hall (Weymouth, Mass.), the second of five Fighting Scot pitchers, suffered the setback on the mound in allowing five runs over 1 1/3 innings.

Massachusetts Maritime returns to the New England Baseball Complex on Wednesday afternoon to take on Tufts in a non-league outing that begins at 3:00 p.m., while Gordon hosts Curry in a Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon in Wenham, Mass. beginning at 2:00 p.m.
