FINAL:              LASELL 6, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 4

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Chris Pittman (Brockton, Mass.) and junior Matt Sammarco (New Canaan, Conn.) each drove in a pair of runs as part of a five run third inning rally that propelled Lasell to a 6-4 non-league college baseball victory over Massachusetts Maritime Friday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field.

The visiting Lasers (11-9) overcame an early 1-0 deficit and took advantage of three hits and an error in the decisive third inning uprising, as a bases loaded walk to senior Billy Uberti (Newton, Mass.) evened matters before Pittman’s two-run single gave Lasell the lead for good.  Sammarco added a two-out, two-run double to left to cap the rally, and after the host Buccaneers (9-10) closed back to within a pair at 5-3 with single runs in the fourth on junior William Cooksey’s (Richmond, Tex.) double and in the fifth on freshman Aidan Desrosiers’ (North Attleboro, Mass.) RBI single, the visitors extended their lead when junior Kevin Post (Cromwell, Conn.) scored on an error.  Massachusetts Maritime loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the eighth, and junior Greg Downs (Marshfield, Mass.) drove in the final run of the day with a sacrifice fly for the hosts, who left the tying runs at second and third in the frame before being retired in order in the ninth to account for the final score.

Post collected two of Lasell’s eight hits on the day, as graduate student Mike Rodriguez (Brockton, Mass.), the first of seven Laser pitchers, earned the win on the mound by allowing two hits and a run over the first three innings to improve to 1-1 on the season.  Junior Vinny Romano (Yonkers, N.Y.) came on to get the final two outs of the eighth and escape the bases loaded jam for the visitors, while senior Brendan Jordan (Rocky Hill, Conn.) earned his first save with a scoreless ninth.  Desrosiers and Downs each had two of Massachusetts Maritime’s nine hits in the setback, while junior Bobby Rosano (North Reading, Mass.) added a triple and scored the hosts’ second inning run on freshman Jonah Olsen’s (Falmouth, Mass.) RBI groundout.  Sophomore Kevin Kwedor (Marshfield, Mass.) allowed one earned run and fanned a pair over the first three innings for the Buccaneers to fall to 1-2 on the season.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Fitchburg, Mass. to take on Fitchburg State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon that begins at Noon, while Lasell travels to Nashua, N.H. tomorrow afternoon to square off with Rivier in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference twinbill beginning at 1:05 p.m.
