Saari exits well at Massachusetts Maritime

Framingham’s Andrew Saari ended his baseball career at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy on a high note last week by contributing to a pair of wins against Massachusetts State Collegiate Conference rivals.

A former Marian High three-sport athlete, the senior infielder was named to the MASCAC honor roll after batting .364 in four games. He executed a safety squeeze that plated the winning run in the bottom of the eighth in a 4-3 win over Bridgewater State and had a pair of hits in a season-ending doubleheader split at Worcester State.

Saari, who saw time at second and third base and at shortstop, finished with a .260 batting average and .403 on-base percentage in 22 games, 21 as a starter.

Head coach Bob Corradi, who completed his 39th season at the Buzzards Bay school, said Saari brought valuable intangibles to the diamond.

“Andrew developed into an important part of our team, not just because of his versatility but for his leadership and his execution,’’ said Corradi. “He did all of the little things that are so important, and I’m thankful that our underclassmen had the opportunity to learn from him.’’

Saari was joined on the roster by senior captain Michael Vargas of Framingham, his former teammate at Marian High, who played second base and shortstop.
