Bio

John graduated from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 1964. scored 15 goals for the 1963 Academy soccer team, helping to turn around a program that improved from 0-14 in 1962 to 6-7 in 1963. His single-game scoring record stood until 2004, when former MMA player Brendan Duggan scored five goals against Eastern Nazarene. Benn was named to the Colonial Intercollegiate Conference All-Star team during his final season. He served as a Third Deck Officer with the U.S. Merchant Marine from 1964-1968. He also served as a LT. jg U.S. Navy Reserves (ret).. He served as head coach of the Medford Striker Boys 74s team, winning the NJ State U-16 Boys State Soccer Championship in 1990. John began his Federal Career of Civil Service with the Maritime Administration in 1973 (U.S. Department of Commerce, which was then transferred to the U.S. Department of Transportation). He transferred to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Region III, Philadelphia in 1981 and retired in 2004 with over 30 years of federal service.
