Pair of Maritime Alums Named to Coaching Staffs

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass – This week, men's soccer head coach Greg Perry and volleyball head coach Jenna Lynn-Geary announced that they would each be adding alumni to their coaching staff for their 2019 seasons. Brendan Gawron (Braintree, Mass) joins men's soccer as an assistant coach while Jen Roy (Attleboro, Mass) comes on as an assistant with the volleyball team.

Former Bucs coming back to coach at the Academy is nothing new. Prior to Brendan and Jen joining their respective coaching staffs, six former Maritimers were already on staffs within the athletic department. Including Director of Athletics Mike Kelley, a 1999 graduate, who is the head baseball coach and an assistant football coach and was a standout two-sport athlete while at Maritime on the football and baseball fields. This summer, 2014 graduate Lauren Salem (Westfield, Mass) was named an assistant women's soccer coach while 2018 graduate Kaylene Murphy (Randolph, Mass) was named head women's cross country coach and served as an assistant on the softball coaching staff in 2019. The other three Maritime grads working with coaching staffs on campus are 1978 graduate and MMA Athletics Hall of Fame member, and only member to be inducted in the Hall for playing three sports, Marc Palombo, head coach of the women's lacrosse team. 2004 graduate John Muldoon who played football and baseball as a Buc is an assistant baseball and football coach. And former Academy Regimental Commander Mikayla Correia (Dartmouth, Mass) who is an assistant with Coach Palombo for the women's lacrosse team.

Much like Murphy and Correia, Gawron and Roy join back up with their former teams a year removed from playing with many of the players on the roster and coaches they played under.

In his career, Gawron, scored 12 goals for the Bucs and tallied six assists so 30 career points. "I am glad that Brendan has joined our coaching staff. I believe he can only add to our staff and help out the new guys." Said head coach Greg Perry. "His knowledge of the game, Mass Maritime and his former teammates are a huge asset to us."

On the volleyball court, Jen Roy had a standout career. In four seasons she had 398 kills, 46 service aces, 49 solo blocks, 82 total blocks and scored more than 500 points. "We are happy to have Jen back with us as a coach for 2019. Her knowledge and ability to connect with the players, especially those she spent so much time with on the court, will be a huge asset to our team and growth of our program." Said head coach Jenna-Lynn Geary.

Coach Gawron and the men's soccer team begin their season Saturday, August 31st against Suffolk University at home at 12pm. Coach Roy and the volleyball team take to the court for the first time in 2019 on Saturday, September 7th on the road against Anna Maria College.
