Five Student-Athletes Named to MASCAC Sportsmanship Teams

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Five Massachusetts Maritime Academy players have been named to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Spring Sportsmanship Teams. Nathan Anderson, Mikayla Correia, Joe Eastman, Michelle Sheehan, and Emily Bacchiocchi all took home the prestigious honor.

The MASCAC Sportsmanship Team is intended to recognize one student-athlete from each team, in every sport that best demonstrates the values of the MASCAC and its Sportsmanship Statement, regardless of their overall performance or statistics for the season. A student-athlete from each institution is selected by their coach to be placed on the Sportsmanship Team of the sport in which they compete.

Anderson, Correia, Eastman, and Bacchiocchi are all seniors. Anderson was one of only 22 senior student-athletes to take home the Athletic Director's Academic Achievement Award at Tuesday's Senior Student-Athlete Awards Night, while Correia was chosen as one of two receipients for the Academic Dean's Award, given to students who persevered in athletics as well as in academics, combining outstanding academic achievement with athletic accomplishment. Anderson seized the starting job at third base for the MASCAC Regular Season Co-Champion baseball team, while Correia was a four-year starter in women's lacrosse and holds virtually every goalkeeping record in the books.

Meanwhile, Eastman and Sheehan both suited up for track and field, with both competing in sprints and serving as a co-captain. Each played a significant role in the team's commemorations of fallen police officer Sean Gannon, a graduate of the Academy and friend of many at MMA.

Finally, Bacchiocchi served as one of three captains for the softball team. She played a signficant role in the addition of Team IMPACT's Paetyn Tripp, who signed a Letter of Intent as part of the organization's parternship with Mass. Maritime. Bacchiocchi has also been one of the most active members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council this year.

A total of 34 MASCAC student-athletes were recognized for their outstanding sportsmanship as members of the 2018 Spring Sportsmanship Teams.
