Four Sports, Baseball’s Grand Opening Suffer Postponements

Buccaneer Athletics have been hit hard by March's steady stream of nor'easters, with a number of games postponed in the last fortnight. Unfortunately, despite the valiant efforts of the athletics' staff, most surfaces are still not playable. As a result, we are delaying games in four sports, including the second attempt at the Grand Opening of Hendy Baseball Field.

While most of the baseball field has been cleared of snow, the last storm damaged fencing and piled drifts even higher. As a result, the decision has been made to celebrate baseball's beautiful new diamond once spring has arrived and weather is more clement. A date will be announced later in the season, which also will allow us to pull out all the stops and ensure that it is a memorable occasion.

Several home baseball games were delayed last week and Sunday's doubleheader was played at Dean College instead of Mass Maritime. Today's game at UMass-Dartmouth also has been postponed, with a new date to be announced. Furthermore, last Thursday's contest with Clark has been moved to a Sunday noon doubleheader. Stay tuned for news on whether the latest storm will affect baseball this weekend.

Additionally, tonight's women's lacrosse home contest with Newbury has been moved to Friday at 7 p.m. Softball doubleheaders against Pine Manor (Thursday) and Bay Path (Sunday) have also been affected, with the former postponed and the latter to be played either at BPU or later in the season. Finally, track and field will have to wait to start its season until the last weekend in March, as Bridgewater State cancelled its invitational for Saturday.
