FINAL:              UMASS BOSTON 4, BABSON 0

HARWICH, Mass. – Senior righthander Matt Tulley (Lowell, Mass.) scattered three hits and struck out 13 over 8 1/3 innings to lead top-seeded UMass Boston to a 4-0 victory over fifth-seeded Babson in Game #7 of the 2017 NCAA Division III New England Baseball Regional Championships Friday evening at Whitehouse Field.

The Beacons (35-10) will face either second-seeded Arcadia or sixth-seeded Suffolk in a winner’s bracket game on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m., while the Beavers (26-14) will square off with third-seeded St. John Fisher in an elimination round contest Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m.

UMass Boston gave Tulley the only runs he would need in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly by senior Anthony Searles (Shelton, Conn.) and a suicide squeeze off the bat of junior Sal Frosceno (Derby, Conn.), and the Beacons tacked on a pair of insurance tallies in the fifth on an error and an RBI single by sophomore Charlie Huegi (Sandy Hook, Conn.).  Tulley overcame a one hour and 17 minute rain delay in the bottom of the sixth and threw 86 of his 142 pitches for strikes in improving to 8-2 on the season for the winners, who receives doubles off the bats of Frosceno and senior Luke Nagle (Pembroke, Mass.).

Three different players rapped out singles in the setback for Babson, as sophomore Michael Genaro (Greenwich, Conn.) went the distance as the tough luck-loser for the Beavers in allowing three earned runs and fanning one while falling to 6-2 on the spring.
