HARWICH, Mass. – Senior Malcolm Kelsey (Piscataway, NJ) went 2-for-6 including a homerun with two runs scored and an RBI as St. John Fisher defeated Worcester State University 14-7 in the second elimination game of the 2017 NCAA Division III New England Baseball Regional Championship Friday afternoon at Whitehouse Field.

 

The Cardinals (31-11) advance in the tournament and will take on the loser of the #1 UMass Boston/#5 Babson game that will be played later this afternoon, in an elimination game tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. The Lancers see their season come to a close a 20-22.

 

St. John Fisher freshman Justin Graham (Webster, N.Y.) went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI, junior Scott Eisenmenger (Hilton, N.Y.) went 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI.

 

St. John Fisher plated single run in the top of the first two innings as senior Jack Trotman (East Amherst, N.Y.) scored on a wild pitch in the first and Kelsey added solo home run to left in the second.  Junior Ryan Fahy (Herkimer, N.Y.) doubled home two runs in the top of the third pushing the lead to 4-0.

 

The Lancers responded with four in the bottom of the third tying the game.  Sophomore Mike Ferrara (Easton, Mass.) drove in the first run of the frame on a single to left center and junior Seth Leslie (Phillipston, Mass.) followed with a sacrifice fly and Chadd Richardson (Bristol, Conn.) drove in the final two with a single to right.

 

The Cardinals reclaimed the lead in the top of fourth on a sacrifice fly by freshman Thomas Pasquale (Endicott, N.Y.) and a two run double by Trotman.  The Lancers got a run back in the bottom of the inning on a fielder’s choice, but Cardinals tallied a run in the fifth and four in the sixth to take a 12-5 lead.  The Lancers added single runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh, but the Cardinals added two more in the ninth on a homerun by Eisenmenger to reach the final score.

 

The Lancers were led by Richardson who went 2-for-5 with two RBI, while Leslie finished the day going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

 

Freshman Dillan Wilkinson (Liverpool, N.Y.) earned the victory tossing three and two thirds innings of relief allowing two runs, both earned, on four hits with a strikeout and three walks.  Sophomore Luke Brennan (Worcester, Mass.) took the loss for the Lancers going three and a third allowing seven runs, six earned, on three hits with four strikeouts and four walks.
