HARWICH, Mass. – Sophomore lefthander Edward Behr (Byram Township, N.J.) tossed a complete-game two-hitter and struck out five to lead fifth-seeded Babson to a 9-1 victory over sixth-seeded Suffolk in the sixth elimination round game of the 2017 NCAA Division III New England Baseball Regional Championship Sunday afternoon at Whitehouse Field.

The Beavers (29-14) advance to take on top-seeded UMass Boston (36-10) in the regional championship round this afternoon at 4:00 p.m., while the Rams finish their season at 28-17 overall.

Babson snapped a 1-1 second inning tie on an RBI double off the bat of sophomore Connor Gill (Sterling, Mass.) that was followed by a run-scoring single from fellow sophomore Brian McHale (Ramsey, N.J.), and the Beavers plated single runs in the next four frames before closing out their scoring on a two-run homer down the right field line from junior Mark Webber (Norwell, Mass.), who rapped out three of the winners’ 17 hits on the day.

Gill went 4-for-5 and drove in two runs in the triumph for Babson, which received two hits each from McHale, seniors Jack Halpin (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Jake Weiss (Irvine, Calif.) as well as freshman Sean Harrington (Walpole, Mass.).  Lehr took care of the rest on the mound for the Beavers, as he threw 70 of his 117 pitches for strikes to even his record at 2-2 on the season.

Senior Sean Cameron (Milford, Conn.) and junior Brady Chant (Warwick, R.I.) each rapped out singles in the setback for Suffolk, as sophomore Kevin Sinatra (East Boston, Mass.) allowed three earned runs over the first 2 2/3 innings on the mound for the Rams to fall to 3-2 on the spring.
